Pepper Pike, OH--The Ursuline College volleyball team was defeated 3-0 by Walsh on Tuesday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Arrows (2-18, 0-8 G-MAC) battled the Cavaliers (10-6, 6-1 G-MAC) throughout the match, but Walsh secured the three-set victory with scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-20.
The teams traded points early in the opening set before Walsh used a 7-1 run to build a 21-14 advantage. Ursuline continued to battle, but the Cavaliers held off the Arrows to take the first set, 25-20.
Walsh carried its momentum into the second set, opening with a 9-2 run. The Cavaliers extended their advantage with an 8-1 stretch to take an 18-8 lead before closing the set with six consecutive points to win 25-11.
The third set again featured a competitive start, with neither team able to establish a significant advantage. Walsh eventually created separation with a 5-0 run, taking a 19-14 lead. The Cavaliers maintained control from there to secure the 25-20 set victory and complete the 3-0 match win.
Walsh held the statistical advantage across the match, leading Ursuline 43-29 in kills and 10-2 in service aces. The Cavaliers also held edges in blocks (6-3), assists (39-26) and digs (43-35).
Ursuline committed 18 attack errors compared to 13 for Walsh, while the Cavaliers posted a .313 attack percentage to Ursuline's .110.
Ariella Keys led the Ursuline offense with eight kills while hitting .571. Ellie Zoeckler added six kills, and Kimora Hansbrough contributed five.
Sophia Serrano paced the Arrows with 14 assists, while Annie Quinlan added 12. Zoeckler led the defensive effort with seven digs, followed by Mya Jackson with six and Serrano with five.
Up next: Ursuline returns home Friday to host Ashland at 6 p.m. in G-MAC action. The match will be played in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
