Arrows Drop Nonconference Matchup Against GSU

Glenville, WV--The Ursuline College volleyball team fell to Glenville State, 3-0, in a nonconference matchup Wednesday evening. 

The Arrows (2-16, 0-6 G-MAC) dropped the match to the Pioneers (9-7, 2-2 MEC) by set scores of 27-25, 25-13 and 25-16. 

The opening set featured an early back-and-forth battle before Glenville State broke away with an 8-1 run following a 7-7 tie. Ursuline answered with a 12-2 run to regain the lead, but the Pioneers responded with a 6-1 stretch to reach set point. The Arrows fought back to take a 25-24 advantage, but GSU scored the final three points to claim the set, 27-25. 

Glenville State carried its momentum into the second set, opening with a 9-2 run. The Pioneers later put together another 9-3 stretch to build an 18-8 lead. Ursuline battled through the remainder of the set, but GSU maintained its advantage and closed out the frame, 25-13, on a 4-1 run. 

The third set saw the Arrows jump out to a 4-1 lead before the Pioneers responded with a 10-3 run. The teams traded points throughout the middle portion of the set before Glenville State used a 7-2 run late to secure the 25-16 victory and complete the sweep. 

The Pioneers held a 44-27 advantage in kills and also led in assists, 44-26, and digs, 63-48. GSU finished with a .218 hitting percentage compared to .051 for the Arrows. 

Ursuline held the edge at the net, recording six blocks to Glenville State's five. 

Kimora Hansbrough led the Arrows with eight kills, while Ellie Zoeckler and Ariella Keys added six and five, respectively. Zoeckler also recorded both of Ursuline's service aces. 

Vada Belt paced the Arrows with 12 assists, followed by Annie Quinlan with six. 

Mya Jackson led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Zoeckler added 11 and Alivia Martin recorded nine. 

Keys anchored Ursuline at the net with four solo blocks and one block assist. 

Up next: The Arrows return home Saturday, hosting Lake Erie at 4 p.m. in Pepper Pike, OH. The match will serve as Ursuline's annual Dig for the Cure fundraiser.
