Shelatz Named The First Arrows Flag Football Coach

Ursuline College Athletics announces the hiring of Ashley Shelatz as the program's first Head Flag Football Coach.

Shelatz joins the Arrows with two years of Head Coaching experience at Warrensville Heights High School while continuing to help grow the game of girls flag football.

In addition to her high school coaching experience, she was also an Ohio Girls High School Flag Football Camp Coach for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Browns NFL FLAG 16U/18U Regional Tournament Coach, Girls High School Flag Football Championship Tournament Coach and a Memorial Coed Draft Flag Football Tournament Director.

Ashley participated in multiple charity flag football initiatives, including coaching for the Stefanski Family - The Keepers Foundation Under the Lights Camp and organizing the Alzheimer's Blondes vs Brunettes Charity Flag Football Game from 2016-2020.

"I am very excited for the opportunity at Ursuline College to launch women's flag football. I am looking forward to the possibilities that lie ahead and I am eager to contribute my coaching abilities and experiences to build a successful flag football program."

Outside of coaching, she has been the Elementary Physical Education teacher for Warrensville Heights Elementary School since 2016. Ashley taught PE for nine years prior to Warrensville and dedicated her time to coaching various volleyball, basketball and lacrosse teams.

"We are extremely confident in Ashley's ability to build Ohio's first four-year collegiate women's flag football team. Her years of experience in addition to her dedication to the growth of the game will set the Arrows up for success in their inaugural 2026 season." Said Athletic Director, Cindy McKnight.

Shelatz received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University and her Masters in Health and Wellness Education from the American College of Education. A flag-football athlete herself, Ashley has played locally throughout the Ohio area since 2016 as well as multiple out of state tournaments since 2020.

Coach Shelatz will begin recruitment this fall of 2024 for the Arrows' first season in spring 2026. If you are interested in learning more about joining the Arrows Flag Football family, please fill out the "Become An Arrow" questionnaire here!
