The Ursuline College volleyball team opened their season at the Falcon Classic, competing against Fairmont State, Slippery Rock and Salem University. The Arrows finished the weekend 2-1 under first year Head Coach,
Haley Paonessa.

In the first match against Fairmont State, the Arrows put up a strong fight in set one, falling short at 23-25. The Falcons led the way in sets two and three, winning 25-14 and 25-16. Junior,
Abigail Aguilera-Ayala, posted her first double-double of the year with 10 kills and 10 digs.

The match up against Slippery Rock was a hard fought game by both teams. Slippery Rock came out strong in set one, winning 25-14. The Arrows rebutted in set two with a tight 26-24 win and continued their strong play in set three, winning 25-22. The Rock put up a fight in set four, sending the game into the fifth and final set. The Arrows led 7-1 before Slippery Rock fought their way back to trail just three points. UC pushed to finish 15-11, getting their first win of the season.

Sophomores,
Maggie Bradley and
Emily Holton saw individual career highs with 38 assists and 18 digs respectively.
Jessica Nary had a strong debut as an Arrow with 14 kills and 8 digs along with fellow freshman
Amie McCarthy's 9 kills. UC tallied 67 digs and 55 kills as a team in this strong team win.

In match three against Salem University, Ursuline took down the Tigers in just three sets, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-13. Freshman,
Grace Van Niel, led the Arrows in hitting percentage at .667 with Junior,
Hallie Rose following up at .500.

Abigail Aguilera-Ayala and
Emily Holton were named All-Tournament team for their strong performances. Aguilera-Ayala finished the weekend with 34 kills and 27 digs while Holton tallied 39 digs.

The Arrows travel to the Wayne State Warrior Invitational next weekend to take on Northwood University, Wayne State, Pitt-Johnstown and Quincy University on September 2-3.
