Softball Splits With Storm on the Road

The Arrows softball team split a pair of double-header games on Tuesday at Lake Erie College. The Storm took the first game 0-1 followed by Ursuline coming back to win the second game 7-2.

Game one had the Arrows out-hitting the Storm 4-1 with 1-1 errors. However, Lake Erie scored the only run of the game at the bottom of the fifth inning. With both teams unable to add additional runs to the board in the final two innings, UC fell 0-1 in the first game.

Nicole Rawling's six inning showing had her allowing three runs and one hit while striking out one and walking three.

The Storm took their momentum from game one and scored the first two runs of game two before the Arrows kicked it into gear. At the top of the fifth, Sara Fessler tripled to set herself up for the team's first run off of a single from Alyssa Baratta. Maddie Fields doubled to follow to send Baratta home to tie the game. Ashley Buttolph added in the final run of the inning off a single from Kat Feretti to make the score 3-2.

At the top of the sixth, Hicks put herself on second before Fessler singled to earn an RBI on Hick's run. In the bottom of the sixth, Ashlee Zientek had the Storm out in three at-bats.

In the seventh inning, Fields and Feretti were on second and third base when Hanna Jones hit a sacrifice fly to send Fields home for the Arrows fifth run. Jovanna Herrera earned an RBI to follow off of a run from Feretti and added in a run of her own shortly after on Matyson Michalski's single. At the bottom of the seventh, another strong pitching performance from Zientek had the Storm out in three to solidify the Arrows 7-2 win.

In Zientek's three innings, she allowed just one hit, zero runs and one walk with one strike out.

The Arrows return home on Friday where they will host Tiffin University at 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
