The Ursuline College volleyball team had a hard fought battle against Ohio Dominican University on Saturday afternoon where they fell three sets to one.
The Arrows set the pace to start and led 14-6 before the Panthers started to pick up their play. While ODU continued to push, they went on a six point run late in the game to take a 23-22 lead. The teams traded leads four more times in the final points before Ursuline took the first set 27-25. UC dominated offensively with 18 total team kills and .355 hitting percentage compared to ODU's 12 and .250. Freshman, Jess Nary, led the Arrows with six kills and six digs while hitting a .300. in the first set.
In set two, Ursuline came out once again with the lead, 5-2. ODU put a stop to the Arrow's run and made a push to set a strong lead ,10-18. Ursuline continued to push to close the gap but fell in set two 22-25.
Once again, the Arrows started set three with a strong lead and held onto it until the Panthers tied it up at 16-16. Ohio Dominican pulled ahead from there and pushed to finish the set 22-25.
Maleah Gibbons hit a .571 in set three, leading the Arrows offensively with five kills and two blocks.
Ursuline lost their steam in set four as the Panthers took an early lead and led the way for the entirety of the set. The Arrows fell 15-25 to drop the GMAC match up.
Two Arrows hit in double digits,
Abigail Aguilera-Ayala and Jess Nary with 13 and 12 kills respectively and seven digs each. Gibbons and Casil added in 9 and 8 kills each to contribute offensively. UC had 46 kills as a team and 34 digs while
Maggie Bradley posted up 38 assists.
Ursuline hits the road next weekend to compete in the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament on October 14th and 15th. The schedule will be released this week for the match ups against GMAC, GLIAC and GLVC teams.
