The Ursuline College softball team swept visiting Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale to seal a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament that begins on Thursday.

The Arrows broke a scoreless game open in the third inning against Panthers starter Evyn Hendrickson.
Savannah Hicks singled to start the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Tara Backherms drew a walk and moved up on a double steal.
Sara Fessler drew the second walk of the inning to load the bases.
Nicole Rawlings drove in two runs with a base hit back up the middle to make it 2-0.
Maddie Fields followed with a single to left center to score Fessler to make it 3-0.

Rawlings made the three-run lead stand up with a complete game shutout. She allowed only four hits while striking out two and walking two while facing 27 batters.

In game two, Ursuline struck in the first inning with a run. After two were out, Fessler singled down the left field line and stole second base to move into scoring position.
Alyssa Baratta reached on an error by the right fielder that allowed Fessler to score to make it 1-0.

Maddie Fields reached on an error to start the second inning and
Kiley Gallagher doubled to right-center to put two in scoring position with no outs.
Kat Ferretti drove in the second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

The Arrows extended the lead in the third inning when
Tara Backherms homered to left field, her first of the season, to make it 3-0. Ursuline plated another run in the fourth inning when Fields singled to start the inning and Ferretti followed with a double.
Devan Peterson drove in a run with a hit to the right side to make it 4-0.

In the fifth inning, Ursuline delivered with the long ball once again. Fessler hit the scoreboard in straight away center field to make it 5-0.

The Arrows first crooked number of the game in the sixth inning after Hicks started the inning with a single to center and
Ashlee Zientek followed with a base hit. Adrianna Nicpon delivered a two-run double to right center to make it 7-0.

Four Ursuline pitchers combined to shutout Kentucky Wesleyan. Backherms tossed three innings to pick up the win while allowing four hits and striking out one. Zientek threw two innings of scoreless relief and struck out two.
Marcella McMahon and
Kelsey Jakosh each had an inning of shutout ball.

The Arrows advanced to the Great Midwest Championships that will begin on Thursday in Findlay.
