Arrows Drop Pair on Friday at Lewis Dome Invitational

The Ursuline College softball team finished day two at the Lewis University Dome Invitational with a pair of tough losses to Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State.
 
The Arrows dropped game one 3-0 to the Cardinals and fell in game two 10-8 in 11 innings to the Bulldogs.
 
In game one, Saginaw Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after an error by Ursuline in center field led to the early advantage. The Cardinals tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh inning.
 
Ursuline was limited to three hits in the first game.
 
In the circle, Ashlee Zientek tossed all seven innings and allowed three runs, two of which were earned while striking out three and walking two.
 
Game two saw a lot more offense from Ursuline and it started in the first inning. Tara Backherms single to get things started and Nicole Rawlings followed with a walk. Alyssa Baratta was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Emily Shrader singled on a ground ball back up the middle to score a pair of runs to make it 2-0.
 
After Ferris State tied the game in the second inning, Ursuline took the lead right back in the home half of the inning. Adrianna Nicpon started the inning with a base hit to left and Baratta reached on an error that allowed Sara Fessler to score and Ely Miller to make it 4-2.
 
The Arrows extended the lead in the fourth inning. After Fessler reached on an error, Nicole Rawlings homered to right field to make it 6-2.
 
Ferris State scored six unanswered runs to take an 8-6 advantage in the sixth inning but the Arrows rallied once again in the bottom of the seventh. Baratta started the inning with a double and fields drove her in with a double of her own to make it a one-run game. Jaqi Vallejo came into score on a wild pitch to tie the game and force extra innings.
 
The game remained tied until the top of the 11th inning when Ferris State broke through again with a pair of runs to win the game 10-8.
