The Ursuline College basketball team made it five straight wins with a convincing 87-66 win at home over Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams came out shooting well in the opening quarter. The Arrows built a 5-2 lead after a three-pointer from freshman
Michaela Cloonan.
The Panthers tied the game 9-9 and scored the next six points to build a 15-9 lead at the 4:58 mark of the quarter. Ursuline responded quickly with a 6-0 run of its own after Cloonan knocked down two more three-pointers to tie the game 15-15 with 2:31 left.
Ohio Dominican finished the quarter with a 23-21 lead.
Ursuline blew the game wide open in the second quarter. Trailing 26-25 with 7:44 to play, sophomore
Tamara Mathis finished a layup to give the Arrows the lead back and they would not give it up again. A jumper by sophomore
Aubrie Marsh made it 29-26 and freshman
Emma Pospisil hit a three-pointer to make it 32-26.
The Arrows took a 48-32 lead into the half.
Ursuline finished the game shooting 51 percent (36-of-70) from the floor and were 7-of-21 from the three-point line while Ohio Dominican shot just 36 percent (26-of-71) from the field and were 4-of-17 from deep. The Arrows were 8-for-11 from the free throw line while the Panthers finished 10-of-14. Ursuline won the rebounding battle 45-38 and forced 14 turnovers.
The Arrows were led by
Madison Cloonan who finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Mathis finished with 14 points while
Michaela Cloonan added 12 points and six rebounds.
Alyssa Evans finished with 11 points.
Ursuline will remain home on Thursday when they welcome in Kentucky Wesleyan for a 5:30 PM tip off. Â
