The Ursuline College softball team split a doubleheader at Florida Southern University on Monday evening to conclude their opening road trip to Florida.
Â
The Mocs struck first in the bottom of the first inning when they scored the game's first run on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
The lead stood until the sixth inning before the Arrows offense broke through. Freshman
Tara Backherms led the inning off by drawing a walk and senior
Brooklyn Miller followed with a base hit to left field to put two runners on with no one out.
Â
After a ground out from junior
Alyssa Baratta moved both runners into scoring position, freshman Hannah Jones grounded out on a sacrifice to score Backherms and tie the game 1-1. Freshman
Madison Jakosh followed with a base hit to score the go-ahead run and give the Arrows a 2-1 lead.
Â
Miller picked up her first win of the season with five innings of shutout relief work while allowing just four hits and striking out three. Backherms started and tossed the first two innings and allowed a run on five hits.
Â
The Arrows will travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the Music City Invitational beginning on February 14.
