Arrows Power by Trevecca 79-71 on Saturday Afternoon

The Ursuline College basketball team used a strong second quarter as they defeated visiting Trevecca Nazarene 79-71 on Saturday afternoon.
 
After a back-and-forth first quarter, Trevecca took a six-point lead at 19-13 with 2:00 remaining in the quarter before freshman Alyssa Evans ended the run with a three-pointer to close the gap to three at the end of the first period.
 
The second quarter started with a three-pointer from senior Julia Cardwell and freshman Patience Ashalou added a triple of her own to give the Arrows a 22-19 edge and cap a 9-0 run. Ashalou added another three-pointer at the 5:21 mark of the second quarter to make it 29-25.
 
Freshman Tamara Mathis hit a jumper in the paint to build the lead to double-digits at 37-27 with 2:20 to play in the half.
 
Ursuline outscored Trevecca 25-16 in the second quarter to take a six-point edge into the break. The Arrows shot 66 percent from the floor (10-of-15) in the second quarter and hit 3-of-4 from behind-the-arc.
 
After the Trojans cut the deficit to 70-68 late in the fourth quarter, Evans delivered a clutch three-pointer with 1:54 to play to make it 73-68.
 
The Arrows shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the floor and were 11-of-20 from the three-point line while Trevecca finished the game 26-of-59 from the floor and 10-of-25 from the line.
 
Ursuline was led by Ashalou who finished with a career-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 4-of-5 from the three-point line in 16 minutes of play. Mathis added 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds and dished out six assists while Jenkins added 12 points and Evans finished with 10.
 
The Arrows will travel to Tiffin on Wednesday to take on the Dragons for the first time this season.
