Lacrosse Opens Conference Play with Win over Battlers

The Ursuline College lacrosse team opened up Great Midwest play on Tuesday afternoon with a 15-12 road win over Alderson Broaddus.

The Arrows quickly got out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Jillian Guiles, Julia Zackey and Abigail Neeley before the Battlers scored the next two goals to make it 3-2 with 22:33 to play in the first half.

Neeley added her second and third goals within less than a minute of each other to boost the Ursuline lead to 5-2. Alderson Broaddus came back to tie the game on two different occasions at 6-6 and 7-7 before Zackey and Neeley scored again to make it 9-7 headed into the half.

With the game tied 11-11 with 20:51 remaining, Neeley scored her sixth goal of the afternoon to put Ursuline in front for good at 12-11. She would add two more scores in the final 12 minutes to give her eight for the game.

The Arrows are now 7-4 all-time against Alderson Broaddus and 3-1 in games played in West Virginia.

The eight goals scored by Neeley were the most in a game in her career and the second most in program history since Cydney Bartlett scored nine goals.

Ursuline outshot Alderson Broaddus 27-25 and also won the groundball battle 21-17. The Arrows forced 22 Battler turnovers while committing 17 of their own.

The Arrows will return to non-conference action on Saturday, March 30 with a trip to the College of Wooster for a 1:00 PM game.
