The Ursuline College basketball team made it two straight wins at home with a 78-67 non-conference victory over Wheeling University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Arrows got out of the gate quickly led by junior
Sam Jenkins who opened the game with a three-pointer followed by a jumper from freshman
Tamara Mathis that gave Ursuline a 5-2 lead. The duo scored 20 of the first 27 points for Ursuline who took a 27-17 lead after one quarter.

Ursuline shot 54 percent from the field in the opening quarter and forced six turnovers from Wheeling.
Â
The Cardinals bounced back in the second quarter and outscored Ursuline 24-14 in the period, but Jenkins connected on another three-pointer to send the game into the half tied 41-41.

Jenkins finished the first half with 17 points while Mathis added 11.

The Arrows defense controlled the third quarter as they limited the Cardinals to 16 percent shooting (3-of-18) from the field and started the half on a 13-0 run to build their lead back to double digits.

Freshman
Aubrie Marsh paced the offense in the third quarter by scoring seven of her 14 points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor.

The Arrows shot 27-of-62 (44 percent) from the floor while the Cardinals were 28-of-69 (40 percent) from the field. Ursuline was 6-of-18 from behind the three-point line and 18-of-22 from the free throw line.

Ursuline outrebounded Wheeling 43-33 and forced 16 turnovers.

Jenkins led Ursuline with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 from the arc. She was also 2-for-2 from the free throw line and had three steals. Mathis finished with 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists and grabbing two steals.

Marsh added 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 24 minutes.
