The Ursuline College soccer team opened the 2018 season with a convincing 3-1 win at home over visiting Wheeling Jesuit University on Thursday afternoon.
 
EARLY OFFENSE

• The Ursuline offense that graduated its top two goal scorers from a year ago wasted little time showing their strength.
• Freshmen Odessa Strizzi finished off a rebound in the 16^th minute for her first career goal to put Ursuline in front 1-0. 
• Sophomore Kara Martin got in on the scoring on a perfect pass from Allie Moening that made it 2-0.
• Senior Haley Knox connected from well outside the box for the third goal of the game in the 40^th minute of the first half that made it 3-0.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• The Arrows and Cardinals each had 15 shots a piece while Wheeling edged Ursuline 6-5 in shots on goal.
• Ursuline's sophomore goalkeeper Gina Cerny grabbed five saves in the win 
• Wheeling had a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks

 
STRONG DEFENSE START

• The Arrows defense stifled Wheeling Jesuit for almost the full 90 minutes after the Cardinals had several scoring opportunities in the second half. The Cardinals broke up the shutout in the final minute of the game.

 
UP NEXT

• Ursuline will remain home Saturday afternoon at 1pm when they host Malone University. The Arrows won the only meeting between the two schools last year 2-1.
