Julia Cardwell combined with a triple-double from senior
Paige Salisbury as they knocked off visiting Davis & Elkins 71-70 on Thursday night.

The Arrows and Senators both came out shooting the ball well in the first quarter. D&E built an early 3-0 lead but the Arrows scored the next six points to take a 6-3 advantage.

Ursuline shot 8-for-14 in the first quarter while the Senators were 8-for-15 but the Arrows held a 24-21 edge after the first 10 minutes.

Davis & Elkins limited Ursuline to just 12 second quarter points on 4-of-14 shooting from the floor and just 1-for-8 from behind the arc to take a 38-36 lead at the intermission.

With 1:15 remaining, the Senators' Sydney Nestor hit a jumper to make it 70-69 before Cardwell connected on a shot from 15 feet away to give the Arrows the lead back with under a minute remaining.

Ursuline came up with a key defensive stop in the final seconds to secure their first conference win of the season.

Emily Poling poured in a career-high 21 points on 9-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the three-point line while Cardwell finished with 19 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Salisbury recorded her first career-triple double with 11 points, 10 assists, and 12 rebounds. Four of her 12 rebounds came on the offensive end that led to six second chance points for Ursuline.

The Arrows shot 27-for-60 (45 percent) from the field in the game while Davis & Elkins was 26-for-63. Ursuline was 4-for-17 from behind the arc and 13-for-15 from the free throw line while Davis & Elkins shot 10-for-25 from three and were 4-for-5 from the line.

Ursuline held a 27-5 advantage in fast break points while the Arrows bench outscored the Senators 23-21.

The Arrows will remain home on Saturday when they host Alderson Broaddus in a 2:00 PM match-up. The Battlers fell in their league opener 72-70 at Lake Erie on Thursday night.
