The Arrows and Hilltoppers both opened the regular season last weekend in conference challenges. Ursuline fell to a pair of teams from the GLIAC in Michigan Tech while West Liberty lost to California PA and defeated Mercyhurst from the PSAC.
Â
West Liberty features a high-powered offense led by Youngstown State transfer senior Marissa Brown who is averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds over the first two games. In their win over Mercyhurst, she scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but teammate Taylor Johnson scored a career-best 33 points and dished out nine assists.
Â
Johnson was 11-for-19 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the three-point line and also went 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the win.
Â
Ursuline had some bright spots against Michigan Tech in the first half but a strong third quarter from the Huskies was too much to overcome. Despite having five players score in double-figures, led by freshman
Jennah Taylor who had 12 points, the Arrows were plagued by 24 turnovers in the game that Michigan Tech converted into 28 points.
Â
The Arrows and Hilltoppers have met on two previous occasions and both have been shootouts by the offense.
Â
In 2014, West Liberty defeated Ursuline 102-78 in a game played at Notre Dame College and last season the Arrows returned the favor with a 105-85 win in Pepper Pike.
Â
Ursuline will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, November 20 when they host Mercyhurst at 5:30 PM.
