The Ursuline College volleyball dropped its Great Midwest opener in five sets to visiting Ohio Valley on Thursday evening.
The Arrows and Fighting Scots battled in a back and forth first set before Ohio Valley took a 10-8 lead. The Arrows tied things back up at 10-10 before extending to a 14-11 advantage.
Ohio Valley answered the Ursuline rally and took the first set 25-21.
The second set played out much like the first did as the two teams traded points in the early going. Ursuline once again built a 10-7 lead but Ohio Valley answered again to tie the game 11-11.
The Arrows then took a 18-15 advantage but once again Ohio Valley tied things up at 22-22 before taking the set 25-22.
Ursuline used a convincing third set to force the match into a fourth set by winning 25-14. Junior
Katelyn Selleny rattled off seven consecutive points to lead the Arrows.
The Arrows forced a fifth and deciding set with a 25-17 win in the fourth before falling 15-4 in the fifth.
Sophomore
Vikki Henderson finished with 12 kills to lead Ursuline while fellow sophomore Angie Zamora had 10 and freshman
Jessie Lee finished with eight kills.
Sophomore
Jill Morrow led the Arrows with four blocks while Zamora had three while freshman
Lauran Hicks had a career-best 37 sets.
The Arrows will continue Great Midwest play at home on Friday evening when they host Davis & Elkins. The Senators lost in straight sets to Lake Erie on Thursday in their conference opener.
