The Ursuline College softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.
The Arrows got on the board in the second inning when senior catcher Mackenize Lebeda hit a solo homerun over the left field fence to make it 1-0.
Â
In the fourth inning, redshirt junior
Brigitte Snow doubled on a misplayed ball in center field to start the frame. Junior
Gina Rosshirt singled and was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double but allowed Snow to score to make it 2-0. Lebeda picked up her second hit of the game with a base hit and came into score on an RBI single by sophomore
Sadie Jones to extend the lead to 3-0.
Â
Senior
Kaitlin Krajcik reached on an error to start the fifth inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. A wild pitch moved Krajcik to third base and a sacrifice fly by senior
Brittany Humbel added another run to make it 4-0.
Â
Lebeda came through again for the Arrows in the seventh inning after junior
Rosie Lyard singled to start the inning and Humbel added a base hit. After Snow drove in a run with a base hit, Lebeda picked up her fourth hit of the game with an RBI base hit to make it 6-0.
Â
Humbel pitched a masterful game one by throwing a complete game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out a career-high 13 batters.
Â
In game two, Ursuline fell behind 3-0 in the second inning and the offense could not get going against freshman starter Allyson Gauen for Malone.
Â
Humbel also pitched all six innings of game two while scattering 10 hits and striking out another 10 batters in game two.
Â
The Arrows are scheduled to play Kentucky Wesleyan at home on Sunday and Monday after the series was pushed back due to field conditions and weather.
