The Ursuline College softball team split its opening Great Midwest Athletic Conference series on the road at Alderson Broaddus on Friday and Saturday.

After dropping the opening game of the series 1-0, the Arrows offense stepped up in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

In top of the second inning, senior
Kaitlin Krajcik hit a solo home run to center field to put the Arrows on top 1-0. Alderson Broaddus scored a pair of runs to briefly take the lead in the home half of the second inning.

Ursuline tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning on an RBI single from junior
Rosie Lyard. The Arrows went deep for the second time in the game, this time from junior
Brigitte Snow to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, freshman
Brooklyn Miller drove in a run after Krajcik and senior
Brittany Humbel reached base to make it 4-2. Junior B.J. Thomas drove in a run with a double to left field and the Arrows extended their lead to 6-2.

Leading 6-4 in the seventh, junior
Gina Rosshirt drove in a run with a double to make it 7-4 and sophomore
Sadie Jones followed with a two run single to make it 9-4.

Thomas finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Ursuline.

Rosshirt picked up the win with five innings of work allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking four. Humbel notched the save with two scoreless innings of work while allowing just two hits.

On Saturday, the Arrows got out to a first inning lead after leadoff hitting freshman
Ellise Presutto singled and came into score on a ground out by Krajcik to make it 1-0. The Arrows got an unearned run in the fourth inning to make it 2-0 before Thomas drove in another run with a double to make it 3-0.

Jones followed with a two-run single to make it 5-0 and Lyard added another base hit in the inning to make it 6-0. The Arrows built a 10-0 lead before Alderson Broaddus scored a pair in the sixth inning.

Humbel picked up the win with six innings of work while striking out six. In two games on the weekend, she registered 17 strikeouts.

Alderson Broaddus took the final game of the series 3-0.

The Arrows will host Ohio Christian University on Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM.Â
