Arrows Close out Perfect December With 96-74 Win over KWC

The Ursuline College basketball team made it six straight conference wins with a 96-74 win over visiting Kentucky Wesleyan to close out 2017 on Saturday afternoon.

HOT FROM THE START

The Arrows jumped on the Panthers quickly out of the gate with a 10-2 run to start the game. Ursuline shot 10-for-16 from the field in the first quarter and were 2-for-3 from the three-point line to build a 22-13 lead after one.

The defense turned the tide in the second quarter as the Arrows limited Kentucky Wesleyan to just nine points on 3-for-14 from the field and 1-for-8 from deep. Ursuline's offense continued to surge in the second quarter as they scored 26 points on 9-for-15 from the field and hit 4-for-8 from the arc.

Ursuline held a 48-22 advantage at the break.

ANOTHER MILESTONE REACHED

Senior Laney Lewis picked up her 1,016-career rebound early in the second quarter as she surpassed Hall of Famer Jessica Wood to become the program's all-time leading rebounder.

Earlier this season, Lewis became the only player in NCAA Division II to currently have 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. She finished the game with 12 rebounds for her 40th career double-double and 10th of the season.

STILL STREAKING

Lewis has now also scored in double-figures in 30 consecutive games dating back to last season. After her 26 points today, she has posted five 20 plus point performances during that stretch.

DON'T TURN THE CALENDAR

Ursuline does not want to see the month of December end after posting a perfect 6-0 mark this month. Since 2015-16, the Arrows are 15-3 in the month of December with two of their losses coming in Hawaii.

SUPPORTING CAST

The sophomore guard combo of Morgan Mattimore and Ky Crevison gave the Arrows a needed boost. The two combined for 36 points on 16-for-21 from the floor and 3-for-5 from deep. Both posted career-highs in points scored with Mattimore notching 19 (9-12 FG) and Crevison adding 17 (7-for-9 FG, 3-for-5 3PT)

The Arrows had at least one basket from 10 different players in the game.

UP NEXT

Ursuline will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Elkins, West Virginia for a New Year's Day match-up with the Senators.

This will be the second meeting between the two as the Arrows won 82-74 on December 6th in Pepper Pike.
