Ursuline will tip-off the 2017-18 season on Friday afternoon at 1:00pm against Ferris State University followed by a match-up with Michigan Tech on Saturday at 4:00pm. Both games will be played inside the Seidman Gymnasium at Ursuline College.
The Series
Ursuline and Ferris State will meet for the second time in as many years after the Arrows defeated the Bulldogs 91-61 last season in Michigan.
Ursuline and Michigan Tech will be meeting for the first-time.
Last Meeting with Ferris State
The Arrows shot 43% from the field and were 12-of-34 from beyond the three-point line while outscoring the Bulldogs 26-11 in the second quarter.
Ursuline was led by seniors
Laney Lewis and
Camryn Hill who each finished with 11 points each while Lewis pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and Hill grabbed eight.
Preseason Picks
After finishing last season 23-8 and winning their second straight regular season G-MAC Championship, Ursuline was picked to repeat in the preseason coaches' poll.
Ferris State was picked to finish fourth in the GLIAC North Division after finishing last season 5-22 and 4-17 in the GLIAC.
Michigan Tech was selected as the preseason favorite in the GLIAC North Division and 21
st in the WBCA NCAA Division II poll.
The Huskies finished last season with a 20-8 record and went 15-6 in the GLIAC and were eliminated in the GLIAC Tournament Final Four by the eventual Division II National Champion Ashland.
Key Returners
Ursuline returns its leading scorer in Lewis (16.1 points per game) along with six other returners including Hill who averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per night a season ago. The Arrows also added three transfers in
Ky Crevison (Bryant & Stratton),
Paige Salisbury (Kent State) and
Morgan Mattimore (Urbana) who will all provide Ursuline with depth and experience in the backcourt.
Ferris State returns its leading scorer in senior Rachel McInerney who averaged 15.6 points per game last season. The Bulldogs will return seven other players who had starting experience last season.
Michigan Tech returns four of their five starters from last season whom all averaged over 10 points per game. Senior Brenna Heise averaged 11.6 points per game last season and shot 47 percent from the floor and led the team in rebounding at 5.1 per game.
