Ursuline & Malone to Play For First Place on Saturday Afternoon

The Ursuline College basketball team will put an eight game winning streak on the line on Saturday when they host second-place Malone at 2:00 PM. The Arrows currently hold a one-game lead over the Pioneers.

Malone has won 10 of its last 11 games with the only setback coming last week on the road at Cedarville when the Yellow Jackets upset the Pioneers 73-61. Ursuline escaped a second straight upset bid by Cedarville on Saturday as they edged out a 70-68 road win.

The Pioneers are averaging 71.8 points per game and are the G-MAC's top defensive team in the conference allowing just 61.1 points a game. The Arrows are the second best scoring team in the conference at 76.5 points per game and also second in the league defensively allowing 64.3 points per contest.

Senior Hannah McCue has made an immediate impact since transferring from Miami (OH) before the season. She is the conference's third-leading scorer at 15.6 points per game while pulling down 9.7 rebounds. She's shooting 39 percent from the field and 34 percent from three (34-for-101). Fellow senior and also a former Miami (OH) player Rachel Goddard is second on the team in scoring with a 14.8 per game average. She is also averaging 4.8 assists per game which is third best in the league.

The rest of Malone's starting lineup is led by Baylen Dyrlund (13.2 points per game), Chrissie Vaughan (7.6 points per game) and Alaina Schwartz (4.4 points per game).

After losing back-to-back games in Hawaii and starting the season 6-5, Ursuline has found its stride winning eight consecutive games including 6-0 in the G-MAC. Redshirt Junior Laney Lewis leads the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game and also in rebounding at 12.5 per contest. Senior Erica Huber is the leading three-point percentage shooter in the G-MAC currently at 44 percent (51-for-114) and is averaging 14.9 points per game.

Sophomore Brigan Wymer has been a consistent force in the Arrows lineup during the winning streak. Over the last eight games, Wymer is averaging 15.1 points per game and is shooting 57 percent from the field and has scored in double-figures in all eight games.

Ursuline and Malone will be meeting for the first time as members of the G-MAC and have not played since the 2013-14 season when the Pioneers won 78-70 in Canton.

The two teams will meet again on the final day of the regular season in Canton.
