The Ursuline College basketball team got a three-pointer from sophomore
Brigan Wymer with 1:42 remaining as they won their eighth straight game 70-68 on the road at Cedarville.
Ursuline and Cedarville were meeting for the first time since a classic G-MAC Championship game last March and once again put on a show for everyone in attendance.
After the two teams traded baskets early, the Arrows took a 7-6 lead on a pair of free throws by junior
Camryn Hill followed by a put back on an offensive rebound by Hill to make it 10-7. Senior
Erica Huber buried a three-pointer to push the lead out to eight at 15-7 with 3:21 to play in the first.
Cedarville answered with an offensive run of their own as they ended the quarter on an 7-3 run to cut the deficit to just a basket after one quarter.
The second quarter featured multiple lead changes and three ties. Ursuline took the largest lead of the quarter at 31-28 with 1:28 to play in the half but the Yellow Jackets got back-to-back baskets to close the half and take a 32-31 into the locker room.
Cedarville did not cool off after the break as they came out of the intermission and took a 37-35 lead that sparked a 7-0 run to build their largest lead of the game at 42-35 with 6:12 to play in the third. Huber stopped the run with a layup and redshirt junior
Laney Lewis brought the Arrows to within four at 42-38 with a free throw just before the media timeout.
Out of the time out, Lewis buried another jumper from 15 feet to make it 42-40 in favor of Cedarville and Wymer buried a three-pointer to give the Arrows the lead back at 43-42. Wymer went onto score the next eight of the next 11 points for Ursuline to push the lead to 48-42.
Ursuline closed the third quarter leading 50-46.
With 6:17 remaining in the game, Ursuline used its defense to try and close out Cedarville. Sophomore
Natalie Koenig got back-to-back steals and scores to build the lead to 60-53 and eventually to 64-56 with 5:28 to play.
The Yellow Jackets went on a mini 5-0 run after the media time out and pulled to within there at 64-61 with 3:08 to play. Baylee Bennett hit her seventh three-pointer of the game on the next possession and Taylor Buckley tied the game with a layup at 66-66 with 1:53 to play.
Wymer again answered the call for Ursuline when she hit a game-winning three-pointer from the right wing, her fourth of the night, to put Ursuline ahead 69-66.
Ursuline shot 44 percent (26-for-59) from the field and went 6-for-22 from behind-the-arc and were 12-of-16 from the free throw line. Cedarville finished the game shooting 47 percent (26-for-55) and went 9-for-21 from three. Each team committed 12 turnovers and the rebounding was tied 31-31.
The Arrows were led by Lewis who finished with 21 points on 8-for-14 from the floor and Wymer who had 18 points on 7-for-12 from the floor. Koenig also finished in double-figures with 14 points and Hill added 10 points.
The win marked the eighth straight for Ursuline, its longest winning streak since winning 12 straight last season.
Ursuline will host Malone for the first time ever in G-MAC play on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 PM. The Pioneers will enter play one game behind the first-place Arrows as the first round of conference play wraps up.
