The Ursuline College basketball team saw a memorable 2015-16 season come to an end with a buzzer beating 72-70 loss to #1 seeded Ashland in the NCAA tournament Friday night.
The Eagles (31-1) came out shooting lights out from the field in the first quarter after Ursuline took a 5-4 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore
Camryn Hill. Ashland went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead with six minutes to play in the first quarter.
Ashland built the lead to 18-9 and eventually led 23-12 after the first quarter that saw the Arrows shoot just 29 percent from the field.
Ursuline struggled to find their offense in the second quarter as Ashland extended the lead to 19 with 6:41 to play in the first half. The 19-point deficit was the largest Ursuline had faced this season. With 5:24 remaining in the quarter, freshman

Camille Gist hit shots to pull the Arrows back to within 12.

Erica Huber got the lead back to single digits after draining a three-pointer to make it 43-35 with 1:11 to play in the half. Ursuline closed the half on a 17-10 run that saw the Arrows shoot 8-for-11 from the field.
A back-and-forth third quarter saw the Arrows pull to within five of Ashland on three different occasions before a tough turnaround shot from freshman
Brigan Wymer brought the Arrows to within a basket at 55-53 going to the fourth.
Ashland built a 65-60 advantage with 3:19 to play in the game before Huber got a driving layup to fall and Hill followed with a three-pointer from the top of the key to tie the game 65-65 with  under three minutes to play.
Koenig struck again with :32 seconds remaining in the game with a layup to give Ursuline their first lead since the eight minute mark of the first quarter at 69-67. Ashland answered right back with a three-point play at the other end to give the Eagles a 70-69 lead.
The Arrows did not go away in the final 14 seconds as Huber drew a foul and tied the game 70-70 with under 10 seconds remaining in the game setting up the final possession. Daugherty found her way down the right side of the lane and banked in a tough jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining to give Ashland a 72-70 win.
Ursuline shot 41 percent (30-for-74) from the field and were just 4-for-16 from behind-the-arc while the Eagles shot 36 percent (28-for-78) and were only 4-for-24 from three. Ashland edged Ursuline 52-47 in the rebounding battle and were 12-for-17 from the free throw line while the Arrows were 6-for-12.
The Arrows were led by Koenig's 22 points on 10-for-25 shooting from the field while Hill added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Lewis also had a double-double with 12 points and 18 boards. Huber finished in double figures with 12 points and Wymer added eight.
Ursuline finished the 2015-16 season with a school-record 25 wins and won both the regular season and tournament championships in the G-MAC. The Arrows offense was still ranked fourth in the nation at 83.5 points per game headed into the tournament.Â
