The Ursuline College softball team split a pair of games on the opening day of the Eckerd College Spring Invitational on Friday. The Arrows fell in game one 6-1 to the University of Tampa and rallied to defeat Eckerd College 5-4 in game two.

In game one, the Arrows fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning and the offense was held in check by Spartans starter Makaleigh Dooley. Junior Brigitte Snow broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a bunt single to third.

Trailing 4-0 in the sixth inning, junior Kaitlin Krajcik doubled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Leah Leshnack to make it 4-1.

Tampa added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to make it 6-1.

Snow went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Arrows offense.

Junior Brittany Humbel (0-1) pitched three innings and scattered five hits while allowing four runs, two of which were earned. She walked four and struck out three. Freshman Sadie Jones tossed two innings and allowed one run on two hits and sophomore Gina Rosshirt also threw a pair of innings and allowed one run on three hits.

In game two, Ursuline erased a 3-0 deficit with a five-run top of the sixth inning to defeat Eckerd 5-4.

Senior Alison Porter got things started in the sixth inning with a one out double followed by a single from Krajcik and a miscue by the Triton defense that allowed Porter to score the Arrows first run. Snow made it 3-2 with an RBI single and Leshnack and junior Mackenize Lebeda both reached on errors to load the bases.

Freshman Hannah Trent delivered a two-run single for her first two career RBI to put the Arrows in front 4-3. Jones added an RBI single to help her own cause on the mound to give Ursuline an insurance run and a 5-3 lead.

Eckerd got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning and got the leadoff batter on in the seventh inning. Rosshirt then got three consecutive fly outs to end the game and notch her first save of the season.

Snow finished game two by going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored while Trent was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Jones (1-0) earned her first collegiate win by tossing six innings and allowing 11 hits, four runs, three of which were earned, while striking out one and she did not issue a walk. Rosshirt pitched the final scoreless inning.

The Arrows are back in action with three games tomorrow starting at 11:00am with a match-up against Nova Southeastern. Ursuline will then play Rollins at 1:30 PM and end the day by taking on Florida Southern at 4:00 PM.Â
