LAST TIME OUTUrsuline won its seventh straight game, and 10
th out of their last 11 with a 102-59 win over Salem International University on Saturday. The Arrows had six players in double-figures led by freshman
Natalie Koenig who poured in 19 points on 6-for-10 from the field including 3-for-5 from behind the three-point line. Redshirt sophomore
Laney Lewis had 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds while Wymer (16), Nelson (14), Huber (12) and Jefferson (12) all tallied double digits.
Cedarville won its third straight game and 19
th of the season with a 62-48 victory over Ohio Valley on Saturday. Senior Kayla Linkous led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points on 8-for-9 from the field and also had four rebounds. Junior Christina McQueen added 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
SCOUTING URSULINE Through 23 games, the Arrows are ranked as the fifth highest scoring offense in the country at 84.2 points per game.
Ursuline is also ranked third in the conference in defense by allowing 61.8 points per game.
Ursuline has five players averaging double figures this season led by sophomore
Camryn Hill who is averaging 14.9 points per game and 9.2 rebounds. Junior
Erica Huber is averaging 13.4 points per contest while redshirt sophomore
Laney Lewis is averaging 12.8 points per night along with 11.0 rebounds. The freshman duo of
Brigan Wymer and
Natalie Koenig who are scoring 14.5 and 12.1 points respectively.
SCOUTING CEDARVILLE The Yellow Jackets have three players averaging double-figures this season. Abby Wolford leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game and is shooting 35 percent from behind the three-point line. Kayla Linkous is just behind her at 12.4 points per game and is averaging six rebounds per contest. Transfer Christina McQueen is also in double-figures with 11.4 points per game and is averaging 5.4 rebounds.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets have the second highest scoring offense in the G-MAC at 72.2 points per game and have the league's best defense allowing just 57.2 points per contest.
LAST MEETING The Arrows erased a 15-point halftime deficit before falling 82-74 to Cedarville in the two team's first meeting of the season at Ursuline. The Arrows were led by
Laney Lewis who scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds. She also dished out seven assists and grabbed two steals while playing all 40 minutes.
Cedarville was led by Kaysie Brittenham who had 19 points including 4-for-7 from behind-the-arc and Abby Wolford who had 17 points. Kayla Linkous added 12 points while Kaitlyn Holm scored 13 points off the bench.
HOME SWEET HOME Ursuline has been nearly unbeatable in their new facility this season. The Arrows are 12-2 in the Seidman Gymnasium this season, with the lone loss coming in overtime at the buzzer against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Arrows have scored 100 points or more five times at home and are averaging 87.7 points per game at home.
The Arrows have been equally as strong on the road with a 7-1 mark away from Pepper Pike. On the road, Ursuline is averaging 73.6 points per game.
CHASING 1,000 Ursuline junior
Erica Huber is 21 points away from scoring 1,000 points as a junior. The Arrows guard is averaging 13.4 points per game on the season and leads the team in three-point shooting with 46 makes.
CONFERENCE RECOGNITION Ursuline has had three different players recognized a total of five times as the G-MAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Sophomore
Camryn Hill has won the award three different times, freshman
Brigan Wymer was named the winner last week and redshirt sophomore
Laney Lewis is the current Athlete of the Week.
Hill was also named the USBWA Division II National Player of the Week and senior
Raven-Symone Nelson took home the Hero Sports Hero of the Week Award earlier this season.
LEAGUE LEADERS The Arrows have several members of the team among the top of the G-MAC league leaders entering the final three regular season games. Sophomore
Camryn Hill is second in the league in scoring at 14.9 points per game while
Laney Lewis (11rpg) and Hill are one and two respectively in the conference in rebounding. Freshman
Christiana Jefferson is second in the league in assists per game at 4.6 and also leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Lewis leads the conference in blocked shots with 2.0 blocks per game and Hill is second with 1.4.
RECORD SETTING SEASON The Arrows have far surpassed the prior school record of 15 wins set during the 2006-07 season. The 84.4 points per game average is also the most points averaged in a season in school history as well.
POST SEASON IMPLICATIONS The Arrows enter play tonight one-game back of the league-leading Yellow Jackets who currently sit at 10-1. The winner of the regular season will earn the right to host the G-MAC Tournament. The tournament winner this season will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in March.
NEXT UP The Arrows will take one final swing through the state of West Virginia for their final two regular season games of the season. Ursuline will take on Davis and Elkins on Thursday and conclude the regular season on Saturday against Alderson Broaddus.
