PREVIEW: Basketball Hosts Mercyhurst Wednesday

The Ursuline College basketball team returns home on Wednesday, December 7 for a non-conference match-up with Mercyhurst University at 5:30pm.

The Arrows are coming off a season-best 102-66 win over Seton Hill a week ago in which all 11 players that were dressed for the game scored at least one basket.
Mercyhurst has gotten off to a hot start this season, winning seven of its' first eight games, with the only loss coming to #3 ranked Ashland.

Ursuline is starting a stretch of six of their next eight games on their home floor where they are 13-4 in their last 17 games played in Pepper Pike.

The Lakers will be led by reigning PSAC West Player of the Week Natalie Piaggesi who currently leads the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds. She is shooting 63 percent (57-for-91) from the field through the first eight games.

Fellow seniors Angela Heintz and Jalin Steel are also averaging double-figures at 14.5 and 10.8 points per game respectively. Mercyhurst is scoring just over 67 points per game while holding their opponents to 57 points per night.

The Arrows are led by redshirt junior Laney Lewis who was named back-to-back G-Mac Player of the Week and also picked up the USBWA Division II National Player of the Week Honors for the week ending November 27. In eight games this season, Lewis is averaging 17.7 points per game and pulling down 15.1 rebounds and also is averaging six assists per game. Lewis has posted double-doubles in each of the first six games this season.

The Arrows also have three other starters averaging in double-figures in Natalie Koenig (13.4), Erica Huber (13.0) and Brigan Wymer (10.4). As a team Ursuline is averaging 82.0 per game while allowing 68.6 points per contest.

Last season, Ursuline raced out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter, but went onto shoot just over 30 percent in the game as they held onto win 56-48 at Mercyhurst. Wymer, Lewis and Hill each poured in 13 points while senior Erica Huber added 11 points.

Ursuline will remain home on Saturday, December 10 when they will take on Saint Joe's out of Indiana in a 2:00 PM tip off.
