Basketball Opens 16-17 on the Road Friday & Sunday


G-MAC Season Preview w/interviews

The Ursuline College basketball team will open the 2016-17 season on the road this weekend as part of the Ferris State Regional Challenge hosted by Ferris State University on Friday afternoon.
 
The Arrows will play Wayne State (MI.) on Friday at 4:00pm and finish the weekend against the host Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm.
 
Wayne State was picked sixth in the GLIAC North Division after losing six letter winners from last year's team that went 12-16, but do return eight players who saw action last season.
 
The Warriors leading scorer junior Shannon Wilson returns after averaging 13.6 points per game and 4.0 rebounds. She started 26 games and shot 46 percent from the floor and 38 percent from behind the arc.
 
Wayne State averaged 71.2 points per game last season while allowing 68.0 per game to their opponents.
 
Ursuline returns nine players from a team that won a school-record 25 games last season as they won both the regular season and tournament championships in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Arrows also made the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Arrows return three First-Team All-Conference selections in senior Erica Huber and juniors Camryn Hill and Laney Lewis. Lewis also won the G-MAC's Player of the Year after averaging a double-double last season.

Ursuline was a the unanimous number one selection the G-MAC Pre-season Coaches Poll. 
 
Ferris State was picked seventh in the GLIAC North Division under second year head coach Kendra Faustin.
 
The Bulldogs will return their leading scorer in junior center Rachel McInerney and also will get a boost from the return of junior guard Ally Christman who missed last season due to injury.
 
Following the trip to Michigan, Ursuline will travel to Clarion, Pennsylvania on November 16 to take on the Golden Eagles.
 
Ursuline will open at the home portion of the its schedule against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 PM.
