Arrows Travel to Ohio Valley Saturday For G-MAC Match-Up



LAST TIME OUT
Ursuline ran out to a 15-0 lead over Salem International on Thursday evening on the road and held on for a 72-51 win. Ursuline once again had four players in double figures led by Camryn Hill and Natalie Koenig who each had 14 points. Hill also pulled down 15 rebounds for her eighth double-double in 14 games.
Ohio Valley is took pre-season G-MAC favorite down to the wire on Thursday night before falling 69-61. The Scots held a 9-7 lead after one quarter and outscored the Yellow Jackets 21-15 in the final quarter but came up short. Post Shicole Watts finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. She also had a game-high eight steals.
 
SCOUTING URSULINE
The Arrows enter play as the 11th highest scoring offense in the nation at 80.7 points per game. Ursuline has done so with a balanced attack, including five players averaging double-figures through the first 10 games.
 
Junior Erica Huber enters play averaging 15.6 points per game including a team-high 26 made three-pointers. Sophomore Camryn Hill is averaging a double-double on the season with 16.1 points per game and 9.6 rebounds. She along with frontcourt mate redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis, who is also averaging a double-double (11.3 points, 10.1 rebounds) have been a force inside early on.
 
The freshman trio of Christiana Jefferson, Natalie Koenig and Brigan Wymer have been solid in their debut season with Ursuline. Wymer is averaging 13.8 points per game and has grabbed two steals per contest. Koenig is averaging 11.0 points per game despite missing two games and Jefferson has the best assist to turnover ratio at 2.1.
 
 
SCOUTING OHIO VALLEY
 
Ohio Valley had a late off-season coaching change and several changes to their roster headed into the 15-16 season. The Fighting Scots picked up their first G-MAC win of the season by defeating Salem International 87-63. Ohio Valley also has a win over Lourdes University.
 
Shicole Watts is averaging 16.5 points per game and pulling down 10.3 rebounds. Faith Miller is averaging 10.0 points a game and dishing out 2.2 assists. Charday Pitts is having a solid debut season inside with a 9.3ppg average.
 
LAST MEETING
 
Ursuline and Ohio Valley split their two meetings last season including the Arrows winning a thriller in West Virginia 73-71 after Ohio Valley missed a shot to send the game to overtime at the buzzer. The Scots won 62-53 earlier in the season in Cleveland.
 
Ursuline is 5-1 against Ohio Valley since 2012-13.  
 
INSIDE THE G-MAC
 
After the completion of most of the non-conference schedule, Ursuline ranks as the top scoring offense in the G-MAC with an 80.4 points per game average. Cedarville is second at 71.1
 
Ursuline also ranks first in the conference in scoring differential with a +18.1 scoring margin over their opponents through the first 11 games. The Arrows also rank first in free throw percentage (75%), field goal percentage (44%) and three-point percentage (37%).
 
BALANCED ATTACK
 
The Arrows have had four games this season in which five players have scored in double figures and six games where at least four players were in double-figures.
 
SPREADING THE WEALTH
 
Ursuline's offense had a season high 23 assists on 34 of their field goal makes against Clarion on Wednesday. Freshman Christiana Jefferson led the Arrows with six assists while Brigan Wymer added five.
 
The Arrows had 13 assists on 22 field goals in the overtime loss to Kentucky Wesleyan led by freshman Natalie Koenig who finished with five helpers.
 
 
HOME COOKING
 
After playing two seasons without a gym, the Arrows are certainly broken in their new home this season. Ursuline is 8-1 in the Seidman Gymnasium and have scored 100 or more three times. The Arrows are averaging 87.5 points per game at home while allowing just 61.2 points per game from their opponents.
 
RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE
 
The Arrows have jumped on opponents early and often this season through 10 games. Ursuline has outscored opponents 332-234 in the first quarter which is an average of 24.2 points per first quarter this season.  
 
STARTS WITH DEFENSE
 
While the offensive numbers have been staggering this season, the Arrows defense has been up to the task as well. Ursuline has allowed 63.3 points per game and have held opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field. The Arrows have defended the three-point line as well with opponents shooting just 24 percent from beyond-the-arc.
 
 
NEXT UP
 
Ursuline will have seven days off following the game with Ohio Valley and return home to host Cedarville in an early season showdown with the Yellow Jackets on January 16.
