LAST TIME OUTUrsuline bounced back from a tough overtime loss against Kentucky Wesleyan with the programs first-ever win over Trevecca Nazarene on Monday night 101-80. The Arrows were led by sophomore Camryn Hill who finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds to post her seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Brigan Wymer added 19 points and four steals while junior Erica Huber added 16 points and seven assists.
Salem International opened their conference slate with an 87-63 loss to Ohio Valley on Monday evening. The Tigers were led by Samantha Aiken who finished with 19 points in 38 minutes and Dorina Barrett who added 11 points and 10 assists to go along with seven steals.
SCOUTING URSULINEThe Arrows enter play as the 12
th highest scoring offense in the nation at 79.3 points per game. Ursuline has done so with a balanced attack, including five players averaging double-figures through the first 10 games.
Junior Erica Huber enters play averaging 16.2 points per game including a team-high 26 made three-pointers. Sophomore Camryn Hill is averaging a double-double on the season with 16.1 points per game and 9.6 rebounds. She along with frontcourt mate redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis, who is also averaging a double-double (11.9 points, 10.4 rebounds) have been a force inside early on.
The freshman trio of Christiana Jefferson, Natalie Koenig and Brigan Wymer have been solid in their debut season with Ursuline. Wymer is averaging 13.8 points per game and has grabbed two steals per contest. Koenig is averaging 11.0 points per game despite missing two games and Jefferson has the best assist to turnover ratio at 2.1.
SCOUTING SALEM INTERNATIONAL The Tigers snapped a 49-game losing streak earlier this season with back-to-back wins over Bluefield State and Rio Grande. Salem International also played Division I Youngstown State tough in an exhibition game in mid-December.
The Tigers are led by Samantha Aiken who is averaging 14.1 points per game on 36 percent shooting from the field. Keishla Gilmore is Salem's second-leading scorer at 8.5 points per contest while Alexus Cooper is averaging 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds.
LAST MEETING Ursuline won both meetings with Salem in 2014-15 including an 85-64 win in Salem. The Arrows defeated the Tigers 71-64 at John Carroll University. Salem's last win in the series came during the 2012-13 season when they won 61-45.
INSIDE THE G-MAC After the completion of most of the non-conference schedule, Ursuline ranks as the top scoring offense in the G-MAC with an 81.4 points per game average. Cedarville is second at 71.1
Ursuline also ranks first in the conference in scoring differential with a +18.1 scoring margin over their opponents through the first 11 games. The Arrows also rank first in free throw percentage (75%), field goal percentage (44%) and three-point percentage (37%).
BALANCED ATTACK The Arrows have had four games this season in which five players have scored in double figures and six games where at least four players were in double-figures.
SPREADING THE WEALTH Ursuline's offense had a season high 23 assists on 34 of their field goal makes against Clarion on Wednesday. Freshman Christiana Jefferson led the Arrows with six assists while Brigan Wymer added five.
The Arrows had 13 assists on 22 field goals in the overtime loss to Kentucky Wesleyan led by freshman Natalie Koenig who finished with five helpers.
HOME COOKING After playing two seasons without a gym, the Arrows are certainly broken in their new home this season. Ursuline is 8-1 in the Seidman Gymnasium and have scored 100 or more three times. The Arrows are averaging 87.5 points per game at home while allowing just 61.2 points per game from their opponents.
RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE The Arrows have jumped on opponents early and often this season through 10 games. Ursuline has outscored opponents 307-219 in the first quarter which is an average of 24.2 points per first quarter this season.
STARTS WITH DEFENSE While the offensive numbers have been staggering this season, the Arrows defense has been up to the task as well. Ursuline has allowed 63.3 points per game and have held opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field. The Arrows have defended the three-point line as well with opponents shooting just 24 percent from beyond-the-arc.
