Ursuline Wins School Record 16th Game, Defeat Senators 91-55

The Ursuline College basketball team won its school-record 16th game of the season with a 91-55 win over visiting Davis & Elkins College on Saturday afternoon.

The Arrows built an early 6-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the game as they outscored the Senators 17-6 over the first 10 minutes. Freshman Natalie Koenig (Wauseon, Ohio, Wauseon High School) and junior Erica Huber (Anna, Ohio, Anna High School) connected on field goals to help build the early lead.

Ursuline went on a quick run to start the second quarter as well as the lead went to 22-11 after freshman Brigan Wymer (Delta, Ohio, Delta High School) finished a layup and made the free throw to complete the three-point play. Davis & Elkins closed the gap to 10 at 30-20 with 5:13 to play in the first half, but the Arrows finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 36-20 lead into the intermission.

Redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis (Lynchburg, Ohio, Lynchburg-Clay High School ) got the offense going in the third quarter after making a layup and finding Koenig on an assist to extend the lead to 42-20. Another layup by Lewis made it 47-21 with 7:37 to play in the third.

Ursuline broke the game open even further with an 8-0 run midway through the third period to push the lead to 55-32 with 5:37 to play. The Arrows outscored the Senators 29-15 in the third period.

The Arrows shot 43 percent (32-for-75) in the game and went 9-for-30 from behind-the-arc while the Senators shot 34 percent (23-for-68) from the field and went 5-for-20 on three-point attempts. Ursuline was 18-for-23 from the free throw line and edged Davis & Elkins in rebounding 37-33. The Arrows had just nine turnovers while forcing 19.

Ursuline was led by Koenig who finished with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting including 3-for-5 from three. She also notched five steals in 29 minutes.Hill finished with 18 points on 6-for-15 from the field and had nine rebounds while Huber added 12 points and dished out four assists. Wymer added 10 points in 22 minutes of play.

The Arrows head out for an important road trip starting on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee when they will take on Trevecca Nazarene. The Arrows won the first meeting 101-80 on their home floor in early January. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM CST.

Game Notes: Ursuline scored 21 points off 19 turnovers…The Arrows had 14 fast break points…Lewis added three more blocks to her league leading total of 33…Ursuline has outscored their opponents 446-306 in the first quarter…Ursuline has the highest scoring margin difference in the conference at +21.9… The Arrows are averaging 90 points per game at home…The 16 wins is the most in school history since the 2006-07 team went 15-15...Freshman Christiana Jefferson finished with seven assists and ranks second in the G-MAC in that category.
