Arrows Open Season With 3-1 Win Over Holy Family

Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio-- The Ursuline Arrows Volleyball dropped its first set and responded by winning the next three to pick up their first win over Holy Family University at the West Chester Tournament held in West Chester, PA. The victory is the first for Arrows first-year coach Jayme Plummer who took the program over in May.

Holy Family and Ursuline battled in a spirited back and forth first game of the season as neither team would go away. The Tigers eventually won the game by a 36-34 count but the Arrows battled the entire time. After some of the early season jitters wore off, Ursuline put together three straight wins (25-19, 25-21 and 25-12) to take the match 3-1 to pick up their first win of the 2015 campaign.

Junior Emily Adkinson finished with a match-high 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. She committed just one error in 19 attempts. Senior Abbie Fabo was second in kills with 6 and freshman Katelyn Selleny picked up five kills in her collegiate debut and 27 assists.

Fabo also led the team in digs with 18 and fellow senior Sabrina Kinney had 12 while junior Sammi Marcum picked up eight for the Arrows.

At the net, sophomore Courtney Burns had nine blocks to pace Ursuline.

The Arrows will remain in Pennslyvania as they play two more matches tomorrow afternoon. Ursuline will take on Goldy-Beacom College at 1:00pm and finish the tournament off against Bowie State at 3:00pm.
