Box Score The Ursuline Arrows volleyball team fell 3-2 in a thrilling five set match to the visiting Walsh University Cavaliers on the opening night of the Seidman Gymnasium inside the Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center on Tuesday night.
A huge crowd of students, fans and alumni showed up to get their first glimpse at the new Sister Diana Stano Athletic Center and the 2015 Arrows volleyball team and neither disappointed. The Arrows and Cavaliers battled back and forth in the first set before Walsh grabbed a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 win.
With the nerves starting to settle, the Arrows came back with an impressive 25-22 win over the Cavaliers in the second set to even the match 1-1. Ursuline jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set but the two teams would put on a show before the Arrows took the set 31-29 and had a 2-1 lead headed to the fourth set.
Walsh rallied in the fourth set after a strong start by Ursuline to take the fourth set 25-20. The Cavaliers used the momentum to grab a quick start in the fifth set as they led 8-4 when the two teams switched sides. As they did all night, the Arrows fought back and took an 11-10 lead before the Cavaliers tied the match 14-14. Walsh would take the final points of the match and win the set 18-16.
Ursuline was led by senior Abbie Fabo who finished with 18 kills and junior Emily Adkinson had 17.
The Arrows head back on the road this weekend to participate in the Gannon tournament in Erie, PA. The Arrows will play twice on Saturday against Gannon and Edinboro.
