Follow Ursuline Athletics on FacebookBox Score LEBANON, Ill. - The Ursuline College lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale at McKendree University, 20-5, on Friday (April 24) afternoon.
With the loss, UC concludes the regular season at 4-11 overall and 2-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. McKendree is now 10-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play with a non-conference match at Lindenwood University scheduled for tomorrow (April 25).
Still, UC qualified for the GLIAC's postseason tournament. As the sixth seed, Ursuline will hit the road to take on the third seed, the
University of Findlay on Tuesday (April 28) night. The start time is yet to be announced.
On Friday, McKendree jumped out to a 7-0 lead before UC went on a mini 3-0 run. Sophomore Anika Abregg put UC on the board with her goal that came with 16:39 left in the first half. Just 36 seconds later, Aberegg's classmate Natalie Pachinger scored and then fellow sophomore Maddie Kipp beat McKendree goalkeeper Amy Porta to make it a 7-3 game.
McKendree answered with a 3-0 run of its own, to which UC responded with back-to-back goals from Pachinger and freshman Cydney Bartlett off an assist from Aberegg.
The home team scored the final three goals of the half to take a 13-5 lead into the break and then the Bearcats rolled in the second half with seven unanswered scores to end the game on a 10-0 run. In the second half, McKendree outshot Ursuline 9-2 with the clock running for the last 28:38.
UC sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Cole, the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, made six saves and Porta was credited with four stops.
