PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Ursuline College lacrosse team picked up its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 12-10 win over Alderson Broaddus University on Friday (April 17) afternoon.

UC is 3-3 in its last six games and currently sits at 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the GLIAC. Alderson Broaddus is now 1-11 overall and 0-5 in conference play and has been eliminated from postseason contention. The Arrows, who were picked last in the GLIAC preseason poll, still have a chance to qualify with a win over Walsh University on Sunday (April 19).

The Arrows came out and scored 30 seconds into Friday's game to set the tone. Sophomore Natalie Pachinger's goal held up for more than seven minutes until AB's Jasmine Barham scored the first of her four goals to tie the game at one.

UC went on a 3-0 run to give itself some breathing room. Sophomore Breana Cervantes scored on a free position shot and then Pachinger set up her classmate Maddie Kipp for a goal. Fellow sophomore Anika Abergg, who sat out yesterday's game due to illness, beat AB goalkeeper Emily Petrole to make it a 4-1 game.

After Cynthia Rice scored to bring the visitors within two, Cervantes scored off an assist from Kipp and then Aberegg scored on a free position shot. Pachinger scored again with 10:08 left in the half to make it a 7-2 game.

AB's Tia Kline scored off a nice pass from Teka Mills to cut the lead to four but UC closed the first half strong. Freshman Cydney Bartlett beat Patrole with an assist from sophomore Natalie Dell and then sophomore Grace Savage scored a pair of goals in the final 49 seconds to make it a 10-3 game at the break.

Alderson Broaddus wouldn't go away easily and scored the first three goals of the second period to pull within four at 10-6. Pachinger beat ABU's second half goalie Arbria Johnson to swing momentum back to the home side before AB's Hannah Hess answered 12 seconds later.

Aberegg scored an unassisted goal with 16:38 to go to provide UC with a five-goal cushion and the Battlers closed the scoring with three straight goals to decide the final margin. The closest the visitors came was two goals after Barham's final goal came with 65 seconds to go.

The Arrows outshot the Battlers 30-24 and UC sophomore goalie Lauren Cole made eight saves, as did the duo of Patrole and Johnson.

Ursuline will host its final home game of the year against Walsh University on Sunday - and it's a big one! That game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and Max Radigan will call the action on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
