Follow Ursuline Athletics on FacebookBox ScorePAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie College lacrosse team protected its home field on Sunday (April 12) afternoon, knocking off Ursuline College by a score of 21-4.
With the loss, the Arrows are now 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Lake Erie has won two straight to improve to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Lake Erie jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before freshman Celeste Friel, off an assist from sophomore tri-captain Natalie Pachinger, cut the lead in half.
After Friel's tally, the Storm went on a 4-0 run to extend the lead to five at 6-1. UC sophomore tri-captain Sarah Kiefer scored on a free position shot with 15:21 left in the half which made it a 6-2 game but the home team closed the period on a 7-0 run to take a 13-2 lead into the half.
In case UC had any hope of a comeback, LEC tacked on four quick goals to start the second stanza. Pachinger stopped the run with an unassisted goal and then her classmate Anika Aberegg scored 30 seconds later to make it a 17-4 game. The Storm closed the game with four straight scores to make the final 21-4.
UC sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Cole and her counterpart Katie Holden were both credited with 11 saves. Lake Erie outshot Ursuline by 15, 36-21.
The Arrows will conclude the season with four of their last five games at home, starting with Tuesday's (April 14) 4:00 p.m. game against an
Urbana University team that is also 1-9. Last year, UC beat UU by a score of 13-8 in the season finale.
