PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Grand Valley State University has a reputation for being one of the premier Division II women's lacrosse programs in the region – if not the country – and the Lakers showed why on Friday (April 10) afternoon as they spoiled Ursuline College's home opener with a 16-1 victory.

Ursuline is now 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Grand Valley, winners in five straight games, improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. All four of the Lakers losses have come against teams ranked in the top-nine in the country.

GVSU scored 10 goals in the first half to take a 10-0 lead into the intermission. The Lakers quickly put any hope of a comeback to rest with four straight goals to open the second period until UC sophomore Anika Aberegg scored an unassisted goal with 11:42 to go to make it a 14-1 game.

The Lakers added two more strikes in the final seven minutes to decide the final margin.

GVSU's Erika Neumen scored four goals and added two assists while Ashley Bailey and Rachel Leibovitz both struck twice.

Grand Valley outshot Ursuline 30-4 which forced UC sophomore goalie Lauren Cole to make seven stops. GVSU's Sarah Zwilsky was credited with two stops – one in each half.

The Arrows will make the short trip to Painesville on Sunday (April 12) for a 12:00 p.m. conference game at Lake Erie College. LEC has said it will provide free live stats, but a link is not yet available.
