GEORGETOWN, Ky. -
The Ursuline College lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Georgetown College by a score of 17-11 on Monday (March 9) afternoon.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-0 on the young year.

UC freshman Celeste Friel scored four goals and sophomore Breana Cervantes had a pair. Other UC strikes came from freshman Cydney Bartlett and sophomores Sarah Kiefer, Julia Kuhn, Natalie Pachinger and Grace Savage.

Pachinger scored just 12 seconds into the game to put the Arrows in front 1-0 but then the Tigers rattled off four straight scores to jump in front 4-1. UC wouldn't go away easily and answered with goals from Kuhn and Friel to cut the deficit to just one at 4-3.

Georgetown went on a 4-0 run to grow the lead to five but Friel and Kiefer (off an assist from classmake Anika Aberegg) scored to make it an 8-5 game. Merrisa Heraldson scored with 44 seconds left in the first to put Georgetown in front 9-5 before Friel beat the first half buzzer (:14) to make it a 9-6 game at the break.

The Tigers struck first in the second half but Bartlett and Cervantes answered to get UC within two at 10-8. A 3-0 Georgetown run made it a five-point match but UC scored three of the next four goals (Friel, Savage, Cervantes) to make it a 14-11 game with 17:03 t0 go.

Unfortunately for UC, Georgetown didn't allow another goal and recorded the game's last three scores to decide the final margin.

Ursuline's sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Cole made 10 saves and GC's Dorren Brabble was credited with 12 stops. The Arrows did have four fewer turnovers than the Tigers (20-16).

The Arrows will visit Shorter University on Wednesday (March 11) night at 6:00 p.m.

Please note that the game against Asbury University which was originally scheduled for Tuesday (March 10) has been canceled due to an unplayable grass field.
