PHILIPPI, W. Va. – The Ursuline College tennis team opened its season with an 8-1 loss at Alderson Broaddus University on Friday (March 27) afternoon. UC was scheduled to compete against Bluefield State College and Davis & Elkins College on Saturday (March 28) but Mother Nature had other ideas and both matches were canceled due to weather.
No plans were made for a re-scheduling of the match against Bluefield State but UC and D&E will play two matches when the Senators visit Pepper Pike on April 18th.
Against AB, UC freshman Roslyn Ng started her collegiate career on a high note with an 8-4 victory over Stephanie Gertsakis at first singles. Freshman Amanda Popik lost 6-0, 6-3 in the second spot and junior Caitlin Seese was turned back in third singles, 8-1.
Senior Jules Turiczek, a newcomer to the tennis program after spending four years on the soccer team, dropped her debut 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Brianna DeMarco (8-0) and junior Constance Samuels (6-1, 6-0) came up short in the fifth and six spots, respectively.
Ng and Popik dropped first doubles to Gertsakis and Mireia Fabrega, 8-3. Turiczek and Seese lost to Jordyn Walker and Nicole Martin 8-4 and the DeMarco/Samuels duo was defeated by Adalou Farris and Taylor Swift 8-1.
Ursuline is scheduled to play at
Adrian College on Thursday (April 2). That match will start at 4:00 p.m.
