Become a fan of Ursuline Basketball on Facebook UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Ursuline College basketball team hit 15 three-pointers (sound familiar?) and scored a school record 105 points in a 105-88 win over Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday (Feb. 14) night.
UC drilled 15 three-pointers last Saturday (Feb. 7) in a win at Salem International University to set a school top mark and equal the Great Midwest Athletic Conference record. Prior to Saturday, the school record was 104 points against Wilberforce University on February 7, 2009.
The latest outburst, which occurred on Alumnae Night and was the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, extended Ursuline's winning streak to four. UC is now 7-18 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Alderson Broaddus dropped to 7-16 overall and 4-9 in G-MAC games. The Battlers have come up short in four straight conference showdowns.
Two days after holding Davis & Elkins College to 46 points, the Battlers hung 51 on UC in the first half to take a three-point lead into halftime. The Arrows won the second half by 20, 57-37.
Since the calendar flipped to February, the Arrows are 4-0 and have hit 49 of their 103 (.476) three-point attempts. In each of the last three games, Ursuline has hit at least 12 triples.
Head coach Shannon Sword watched her team dish out 26 assists on Saturday night, the most since she took over the program prior to the 2012-13 campaign. Senior guard Brianna Woods tied her career-high with 13 helpers. She made things happen all night and found shooters who were ready to catch and knock it down and also penetrated and dished to the bigs who finished near the rim.
Five Arrows scored in double figures and freshman guard Makayla Rosselot led the charge with 28 points. She hit six threes in the first half and added two more in the second half to go with four free throws. Add it all up and she had 28 points on 8-13 shooting. She missed both of her two-point attempts but set a new career-high with seven rebounds.
Freshman Camille Gist scored a career-high 16 points and her classmate Madison Schroeder also chipped in 16, two shy of her top single game effort. Senior forward Emma Ricketts and sophomore guard Delayne Seigla both finished with 11.
Seigla had reached double figures one time in UC's first 22 games but has now accomplished that feat in three straight contests.
Sophomore point guard Erica Huber had eight points and eight assists as well as six rebounds from her guard spot. Despite standing just 5-foot-4, Huber is averaging 5.8 boards per game during the month of February.
Woods scored six points, as did freshman forward Camryn Hill. Freshman guard Kristen Curtis finished with three points after she knocked down a three-ball.
As a team, the Arrows were 15-25 (60 percent) from beyond the arc.
Alderson Broaddus can really fill it up on the offensive end and Jordan Parker was one of five Battlers in double figures with 18 points. Rachel Ashley had 14, Erica Brooks hit four threes to finish with 12, Kaitlyn Rohlfing scored 11 and Sydney Shaffer chipped in 10.
AB was 12-30 (40 percent) from three-point territory.
The Arrows won the rebounding battle by 12 (41-29) but committed seven more turnovers than the opposition (24-17).
