LAST TIME OUTUrsuline continued their record-setting fast start with an 89-69 win over visiting Clarion University on Wednesday night. The Arrows once again had five players score in double figures led by sophomore Camryn Hill who finished with 18 points. Junior Erica Huber added 16 points and redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis had a double-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and also dished out five assists and blocked three shots. The freshman duo of Natalie Koenig and Brigan Wymer each had 11 points and were a combined 9-for-11 from the floor.
Kentucky Wesleyan has not played since December 19 when they fell 72-64 to Kentucky State for the second time this season. The Panthers had three players score in double figures led by junior Brittany Wells who finished with 17 points. Juniors Jill Jones and Erin Dorn added 13 and 11 points respectively.
After starting the season 1-3, Kentucky Wesleyan has won five of their last six games to improve to 6-4 on the season. Last season, the Panthers were 13-3 in the G-MAC and lost in the conference tournament championship game to Cedarville.
SCOUTING URSULINEThe Arrows enter play as the 12
th highest scoring offense in the nation at 79.3 points per game. Ursuline has done so with a balanced attack, including five players averaging double-figures through the first 10 games.
Junior Erica Huber enters play averaging 16.5 points per game including a team-high 26 made three-pointers. Sophomore Camryn Hill is averaging a double-double on the season with 15.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds. She along with frontcourt mate redshirt sophomore Laney Lewis, who is also averaging a double-double (12.1 points, 10.4 rebounds) have been a force inside early on.
The freshman trio of Christiana Jefferson, Natalie Koenig and Brigan Wymer have been solid in their debut season with Ursuline. Wymer is averaging 14.5 points per game and has grabbed two steals per contest. Koenig is averaging 11.5 points per game despite missing two games and Jefferson has the best assist to turnover ratio at 2.1.
SCOUTING KENTUCKY WESLEYANThe Panthers are a balanced team that focuses on the defensive end of the floor. This season, they are averaging 64.7 points per game but are only allowing 60.7 to their opponents. Junior Brittany Wells leads the team in scoring with a 12.4 points per game average and fellow junior Jennifer Walker-Crawford is right behind her at 12.1. Juniors Erin Dorn and Jill Jones give the starting-group a boost with a 7.5 and 7.3 points per game average.
LAST MEETINGUrsuline had their 2014-15 season ended in the first round of the G-MAC tournament last March by the Panthers 85-54. Kentucky Wesleyan won both regular season meetings including a 73-58 win last season at John Carroll University.
The Arrows are seeking their first win against the Panthers since joining the G-MAC.
INSIDE THE G-MAC After the completion of most of the non-conference schedule, Ursuline ranks as the top scoring offense in the G-MAC with an 80.2 points per game average. Cedarville is second at 70.8. Today's opponent Kentucky Wesleyan ranks fourth at 64.8 points per game.
Ursuline also ranks first in the conference in scoring differential with a 19.5 scoring margin over their opponents through the first 11 games. The Arrows also rank first in free throw percentage (75%), field goal percentage (44%) and three-point percentage (37%).
BALANCED ATTACKThe Arrows have had four games this season in which five players have scored in double figures and five games where at least four players were in double-figures.
SPREADING THE WEALTH Ursuline's offense had a season high 23 assists on 34 of their field goal makes against Clarion on Wednesday. Freshman Christiana Jefferson led the Arrows with six assists while Brigan Wymer added five.
HOME COOKING After playing two seasons without a gym, the Arrows are certainly broken in their new home this season. Ursuline is 7-0 in the Seidman Gymnasium and have scored 100 points twice against Lake Erie in the opener and also against Wilberforce. The Arrows are averaging 87.5 points per game at home while allowing just 61.2 points per game from their opponents.
RIGHT OUT OF THE GATEThe Arrows have jumped on opponents early and often this season through 10 games. Ursuline has outscored opponents 268-186 in the first quarter which is an average of 24.2 points per first quarter this season.
STARTS WITH DEFENSE While the offensive numbers have been staggering this season, the Arrows defense has been up to the task as well. Ursuline has allowed 60.6 points per game and have held opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field. The Arrows have defended the three-point line as well with opponents shooting just 24 percent from beyond-the-arc.
