Box Score MASON, Ohio-- The Ursuline College volleyball team dropped a hard fought, back-and-forth match with Davis & Elkins 3-1 on Thursday night in the G-MAC Quarterfinals held in Mason, Ohio.
Ursuline raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first set after back-to-back kills by sophomore Courtney Burns (Fostoria/Hopewell Loudon) and one from senior Abbie Fabo (Willoughby/Villa Angela St. Joe's). The two teams traded points before the Arrows scored four straight to build a 24-17 lead and eventually took the set 25-19.
In the second set, the Arrows were trailing 16-9 before making a furious run to get within 21-20 after an ace by freshman Katelyn Selleny (Concord/Riverside). The Senators eventually pulled away and took the set 25-21 and tied the match 1-1.
The third set was much of the same as the two teams had several ties and lead changes throughout. The Arrows had a 24-22 advantage but this time it was the Senators who rallied to tie the match 25-25 before winning the next two points to take set 27-25.
The fourth set was a carbon copy of the third set as again the two teams would find themselves trading the lead several times throughout the set. The Senators once again rallied to tie the set 25-25 before eventually winning 27-25 to take the match and advance to the next round.
Ursuline was led by Burns who finished with a career high 15 kills while Fabo and Elise Harcek added 10 each. Harcek also notched six blocks while Selleny finished with 43 assists. Junior Makayla Windau (Castalia/Maragaretta) finished with a match high 21-digs.
