Arrows Drop Five Set Thriller to Malone Tuesday

The Ursuline College volleyball team returned home for the first time in 16 days and dropped a five set thriller to visiting Malone University on Tuesday evening. 

The Arrows (6-17) came out strong in the first set as they scored four of the first five points to build a 4-1 lead. Ursuline built the lead to as many as five before taking the first game 25-18. The Pioneers (7-16) responded with a 25-17 win in the second game to even the match 1-1. 

Ursuline once again looked dominate in the third game as they raced out to a 5-0 lead capped off by an ace from junior Sammi Marcum. Ursuline took the game 25-15 and held a 2-1 lead looking to close out the match in the fourth. 

Malone did not go away easily in the fourth set as they rallied and took the set 25-16 to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. After Ursuline suffered a pair of injuries, they fell 15-12 in a hard-fought fifth set. 

Junior Makayla Windau had a team-best 15 kills while senior Abbie Fabo finished with nine. Sophomore Courtney Burns finished with three blocks while freshman Katelyn Selleny had 29 assists. Senior Sabrina Kinney had 23 digs and Marcum finished with 21. 

Malone freshman Mallory Adams finished with a match-high 16 kills. 

The Arrows are right back out on the road on Thursday as they get back into G-MAC play against Ohio Valley. The match will begin at 7:00pm and live video and stats will be available.
