UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - Senior guard Brianna Woods scored a season-high 15 points but the Arrows came up short against Ohio Valley University, 62-53, on Thursday (Jan. 8) night at John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

With the loss, Ursuline fell to 2-13 overall and 1-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Ohio Valley has won back-to-back games after losing 10 straight to start the year and now sits at 2-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Both teams struggled to get much going offensively in the first half and the Arrows took a two-point lead into the intermission. Woods led all scorers with 10 points in the first 20 minutes and six of her teammates got in the scorebook but none contributed more than three points.

It was tight throughout the second period and Ursuline trailed by just two at 45-43 with 5:25 to go after Woods drove and dished to her classmate Emma Ricketts for an easy bucket. Over the next 1:46, the Fighting Scots went on a 10-1 run to make it a 55-44 game and the Arrows couldn't string together enough stops and scores to overcome that Fighting Scot run.

Both teams turned the ball over 23 times which led to 18 points for the opposition. OVU held a slight edge in the rebounding category (40-38) but the biggest difference was that the Fighting Scots got some easy looks. Of OVU's 62 points, 36 were scored in the paint and Ursuline scored 22 points from close range while having seven attempts blocked. Ohio Valley hit 39.1 percent (25-64) from the floor and Ursuline connected on 29 percent of its shots (18-62).

Aside from the big night out of Woods, sophomore point guard Erica Huber scored eight points, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Sophomore guard Delayne Seigla scored seven points off the bench and Ricketts went for six points and six boards.

Ghameerah McCullers scored 15 points to lead OVU and Amy Brooks had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ndeye Meissa Dip had an identical 12 and 10 stat line to go with five blocks in her 29 minutes of action before leaving with an injury.

Tashiana Hill scored 11, Angelique Green had seven and some big rebounds off the bench and Danielle Dunnagan, OVU's leading scorer, was held to five points in 34 minutes.

The Arrows will host a Salem International University team that is 0-16 overall and 0-4 in conference play on Saturday (Jan. 10). That game will start at 6:00 p.m. at John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center and will be covered with the Pizzazz on the Circle Live Stats and free live audio on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
