UC didn't score until senior Emma Ricketts hit a bucket 7:48 into the game. Over the final 33 minutes of the game, the Arrows outscored the Trojans 53-51 but unfortunately, the slow start did in UC.
The Arrows have dropped four straight games and are now 3-17 overall and 2-7 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. This was Trevecca's third straight win and the Trojans have run their record to 10-9 overall and 7-2 in the G-MAC.
Ursuline cut the lead to as little as six before going into halftime down 37-25. The Trojans held a 20-point (56-36) lead with 7:49 left and the Arrows chipped away but never got the deficit into single digits from that point on.
Overall, UC played pretty solid defense and limited the Trojans to just 23 made field goals - tying the lowest output by the opposition all year. The Arrows also blocked a season-high nine shots, four of which were credited to freshman forward Madison Schroeder.
She had three points to go with her 12 rebounds and four swats. Schroeder has 10 rebounds in four straight games.
Sophomore point guard Erica Huber and Ricketts both scored a game-high 13 points. Freshman Makayla Rosselot chipped in nine points but no other Arrow scored more than four on a night when the team shot 30.4 percent from the floor (17-56) and 29.2 percent (7-24) from behind the three-point line.
Reserve Kylie White led the Trojans with 13 points and Chari Swift came off the bench to score 10. Trevecca head coach Gary Van Atta benefitted from 33 points from his second unit but UC's reserves combined for 24 points.
Trevecca held a slight edge in rebounding (41-39) but turned the ball over 14 fewer times than Ursuline (27-13). UC's miscues led to 26 Trojan points off turnovers.
The Arrows will try and get back on track on Saturday (Jan. 31) against
Kentucky Wesleyan College (11-6, 7-1 G-MAC). KWC will bring its three-game winning streak to
John Carroll University's Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center for a 6:00 p.m. showdown. Max Radigan will call Saturday's action live on the
Ursuline College Sports Network and the
Pizzazz on the Circle Live Stats will also be provided free of charge.
When UC and KWC got together in Owensboro on Jan. 5, the Panthers prevailed 84-57.
