VIENNA, W. Va. – The Ursuline College volleyball team continued its recent roll with a pair of wins on Saturday (Sep. 27) at the Ohio Valley University Tri-Meet in Vienna, W. Va.
The Arrows opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference play in the morning with a four-set win over the host Pioneers before knocking off Ohio Christian University in five in the afternoon.
UC has now won nine straight after losing its first match of the season and wraps up the weekend at 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Ohio Valley took the first set from UC, 25-11, but the Arrows responded and won the next three 25-20, 26-24 and 25-23. It seemed like the battle with Ohio Christian would be a quick one after UC won the first two sets (25-15 and 25-23) but OCU won the next two, 25-22 and 25-23. The Arrows captured the deciding set 15-12 to make it a perfect three-for-three on the weekend after taking care of Salem International University on Friday (Sep. 26) night.
Sophomore Emily Adkinson led Ursuline with a combined 28 kills on Saturday, including a career-high 17 against OVU, and committed just four total errors in 43 chances (.558). She figures to stay atop the NCAA Division II leaders in hitting percentage. Junior Abbie Fabo (24) and sophomore Makayla Windau (21) combined for 45 kills and senior setter Moly Hilfinger added 95 assists to her season total.
There were six double-doubles on Saturday. Freshman Courtney Burns tied her career-high with 10 kills and added 15 digs against Ohio Christian and Fabo had 13 kills and a career-high 22 digs in that same match.
Hilfinger equaled her career-high with 50 assists (also on Sep. 5 against Kutztown Univeristy) and 11 digs against Ohio Valley and followed that up with 45 assists and 12 digs against Ohio Christian. Windau went for 11 kills and 18 digs in the morning before finishing the day with 10 kills and a career-high 22 digs against the Trailblazers.
The Arrows will take a quick break from conference play on Tuesday (Sep. 30) when they travel to
Tiffin University (4-6, 2-5 GLIAC) to take on the Dragons. That match will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be covered with
free live stats.
