SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Ursuline College volleyball team knocked off neighborhood rival Notre Dame College in four sets on Tuesday (Sep. 23) night to pick up its sixth consecutive win.

The Arrows won the first two sets 26-24 and 28-26 before the Falcons took the third, 25-23. Ursuline put any hope of a Notre Dame comeback to rest by taking set number four by a score of 25-17.

It was an insanely tight match, evidenced by the fact that the score was tied at 18 different times in the first set and 12 more times in the second.

Ursuline is now 6-1 overall while Notre Dame slipped to 4-8 overall. During the six-match winning streak, UC's opponent have won just two sets (18-2) and tonight was the first time an opponent mustered even one game in exactly two weeks.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame had its two-match winning streak snapped. The Falcons were feeling good after winning their last two matches which followed a string of six consecutive losses.

Junior Abbie Fabo and sophomore Makayla Windau led Ursuline with 13 kills each on Tuesday night. That total was one shy of Fabo's season-high (14 against Malone University on Sep. 9) and for Windau, it matched her season-high set against Kutztown University on Sep. 5 which was the last time Ursuline lost.

Freshman Courtney Burns chipped in nine kills and senior setter Molly Hilfinger dished out 43 assists, the third most she has distributed in a match this season.

Junior libero Jaclyn Brandt led the team with 20 digs and set a new career-high with eight assists. Windau also had 13 digs to pick up her first double-double of the young year.

Notre Dame's Kristen Hill had a match-high 15 kills while Lindsay Shirilla had 12 and Brooke Mako chipped in 11. Most of those kills came courtesy of Shelby Regiec (27 assists) and Tawny Flareau (16 assists).

Defensively, Morgan Toman and Flareau each had 16 digs to pace NDC while Tawnia Almaraz (15) and Regiec (12) also reached double figures.

At the net, Ursuline had seven total blocks – one more than the opposition.

Ursuline will play its next four matches away from home, starting with a trip to Salem International University on Friday (Sep. 26) night. UC and SIU will get started at 7:00 p.m. and the following day, UC will take on Ohio Valley University (11:00 a.m.) and Ohio Christian University (1:00 p.m.) at a tri-match hosted by Ohio Valley in Vienna, W. Va.
