Ursuline Drops GLIAC Opener to Lake Erie, 18-9

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Ursuline College lacrosse team dropped its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener to host Lake Erie College, 18-9, on Wednesday (April 2) evening.

The Arrows are now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Storm improved to 3-6 and 1-0 in the GLIAC.

Freshman Bailey Patterson scored five goals and her classmate Maddie Kipp found the back of the net three times. Rookie Anika Aberegg notched UC's other goal with 11:21 left in the game.

LEC took a 1-0 lead 3:34 into the game and Kipp's first goal of the day knotted it at 1-1 less than two minutes later. Lake Erie scored the next five goals to build a 6-1 advantage before Kipp's second goal of the day cut into the deficit. After that score, Lake Erie went on a 4-1 run to make it a 10-3 game at halftime.

Ursuline came out clicking to start the second half and scored three of the next four goals to make it an 11-6 game. Lake Erie was resilient and responded with a 3-0 run to double-up the Arrows and the closest UC got was six after a Patterson score made it a 14-8 game with 11:07 remaining.

Freshman goalie Lauren Cole made 14 stops in defeat, six more than her counterpart Katie Holden. LEC outshot UC 43-25 and was whistled for 37 fouls, 20 more than Ed Karasek's team.

Ursuline will get back at it on Friday (April 4) with a conference game at Walsh University. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Pepper Pike but it has been moved to North Canton because of field conditions.

The 5:00 p.m. start time does not change.
