The Arrows improved to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while the Marauders are winless in 10 tries and slipped to 0-7 in the conference.
Senior Alex Leister and sophomore Kayla Wayts won first doubles 8-4 and sophomore Caitlin Seese and senior Dee Erazo took second doubles by an identical 8-4 score. UC forfeited third doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Leister won first singles 6-1, 6-0 and Wayts was victorious in the two slot in straight sets. With CSU taking fourth and fifth singles in addition to an Ursuline forfeit in the sixth position, it all came down to third singles.
Seese was down to match point in the third set tiebreaker after failing to convert on two match points but she saved it and prevailed. Her 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 victory punched the ticket for UC's first victory of the year.
Today's match was the regular season finale before the
G-MAC Championships are held in Cedarville next weekend (April 25-26). By earning the fifth seed, UC is scheduled to play at 9:00 a.m. next Friday (April 25) on courts 3, 5, 6 and 9 at
CU's Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex.
