ANGOLA, Ind. – Freshman Maddie Kipp scored five goals in the game and her classmate Bailey Patterson scored three times in the second half to help Ursuline College get past host Trine University, 11-9, on Saturday (March 29) afternoon.
The win put an end to UC's three-game losing skid and improved the first-year team to 2-3 overall while Trine dipped to 1-3.
UC held a 5-4 lead at halftime but Trine came out of the break firing and took a 6-5 lead. Goals from freshmen Maddie Kipp and Anika Aberegg put UC back on top 7-6 before the Thunder knotted the contest at 7-7.
Trine moved in front, 8-7, when Anne Mammel scored on a free position shot with 11:35 left but just 14 seconds later, freshman Bailey Patterson scored to help UC pull even.
Kipp and Patterson scored back-to-back tallies to give the Arrows some breathing room before Trine's Taylor Gast cut the deficit in half with 4:31 left.
Patterson's final goal at 3:21 decided the final margin.
Freshman Lauren Cole made 15 saves in goal to earn her second collegiate victory.
UC will open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (April 2) at Lake Erie College. That contest is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
